This place is amazing… A lonely unassuming turn off from the main road, like so many jewels in nz, brought me into this little place called Waihi Beach, not the Waihi Beach people think of in the Coromandel, but in Hawera, volcano country close to Mt. Taranki. Driving in, the road brings you up on the cliff faces with nothing but a glimpse of what is a short meander through the cliffs to below. The grass on the cliff face is so green and the air so crisp, looking on at the quaint little camping or campervan zones casually, but beautifully slotted along one side, with carefully placed rocks separating each section, this place already has real feel, and this is before I have even seen the main attraction, the beach line below…

A short little decent on a gravel path through the cliffs and…

wow! one word, no actually two, beautiful and dynamic. So many forms it is hard to take them all in. I just know I will be here for several hours, just as well I packed my man bag with some food and water and essentials. Here are a few photos.. and yes, this place brought out the creative energy in me, and love it when places have such an effect…
Thanks, great article.
